The Second Quarter of 2015, A Sampler of Photographs

I'm working on my fifth year of a 365 photography project. Every day, I make a photograph.

A photograph a day, marks the year, the passage of time - a kind of visual diary.

Today marks the end of the second quarter of the year...half-way through 2015.

April, May, and June have been the quarter of spring. Spring, when the earth awakens from the cold dark winter, and growth is expected, demanded. Spring appears to be a gentle unfolding, but it is a hard, sometimes brutal process.

For a seed to achieve its greatest expression,
it must come completely undone.
The shell cracks, its insides come out and
everything changes.
To someone who doesn't understand growth,
it would look like complete destruction.
~ Cynthia Occelli

Following is a sample of the photographs for April, May, and June.

While spring is taking over the days, I try to hold it still for a moment.

Summer naps, summer dreams

After a long hot summer day,
a nap is called for,
to escape
from the day,
from the heat of the afternoon

Escape to dream of a cool breeze that moves
across your skin like the thinnest of silk

And if the dreaming doesn't last,
rise to the day
and to hope
that dreams will come true

the Couple

The couple sitting at the corner table are so focused on each other that they exclude the world.

He leans toward her, reaches out and lightly brushes a her hair from her face.

They talk, looking into each other's eyes.

She pats his arm and touches his hand.

He takes her hand in his, still talking softly.

Are they new lovers or have they known each other for years?

Have they just found each other after years of searching?

They get up to leave the cafe, holding hands as they begin to walk the path back to town.

May each one of us, some day, know the sweetness of such love.

the muse

sometimes the muse is silent
a query for inspiration
for a voice
is met with silence
a stillness that is filled with no

all I can do is wait
wait for her to return from some distant place I cannot go

while I wait I clear out
clear my mind, sweep the dust from the corners
shake out my thoughts
gently wash my heart with tears

because I know
if my muse is missing
she's been pushed away by all the clutter of life
the unsaid words
the unshed tears
I need to clear a space for her to return

so I tidy up
get ready
and I wait
